The
2003 Jim Phelan Mid-Season Coach Award honors go to Creighton head coach
Dana Altman.
Despite the departure of Kyle Korver, Larry House and DeAnthony Bowden,
the Bluejays are off to a 9-0 start, under the guidance of Altman.
"All he does is win," says CollegeInsider.com editor-in-chief Joe Dwyer.
"Until proven otherwise, Creighton is still the team to beat in the
Missouri Valley.
The Bluejays have notched impressive wins at Fresno State and Wyoming,
while recording victories at home over the likes of Nebraska and St.
Bonaventure.
Altman's team has extended its school-record home court winning streak to
24 games and joins Pittsburgh and Wake Forest as the only schools to be
undefeated on Dec. 30 in each of the last two seasons.
Creighton's 38-5 record since the start of last season trails only
Pittsburgh (41-5) and Kentucky (39-5) nationally.
Altman has amassed 184 wins, in ten-plus seasons at Creighton. Now in his
15th season as a head coach, Altman has posted an mark of 267-167.
Other finalists included Jim Baron (Rhode Island), Mick Cronin (Murray
State), Paul Hewitt (Georgia Tech), Bob Huggins (Cincinnati) and Dickey
Nutt (Arkansas State). |
